Book 5 · Savings & Compound Interest

Rate, Frequency & APY

Two accounts can quote the same rate and pay differently. The true yield (APY) folds in how often interest compounds — so you compare like with like.

Enter the rate and how often it compounds, then press Calculate.
From the book — Chapter 6. APY = (1 + rate ÷ n)n − 1, where n is the number of times a year interest is added. Compounding more often earns interest on interest sooner, so the true yield edges above the quoted rate. When you compare accounts, compare APYs — never the headline rate alone.
