Temperatures (the wax maker's figures)

CLP sensitizers from your SDS (UK, EU): each one's % in the fragrance

Enter the fill and press Calculate.

The formula

  • From a load L (% of wax): wax = fill ÷ (1 + L), fragrance = fill − wax. Content C = L ÷ (1 + L)
  • From a content C (% of the candle): fragrance = fill × C. Load L = C ÷ (1 − C)
  • °C = (°F − 32) × 5 ÷ 9; °F = °C × 9 ÷ 5 + 32
  • Sensitizer in the candle = content × its % in the fragrance. Skin Sens. 1B: classified at 1 %, EUH208 from 0.1 %; 1A: 0.1 % and 0.01 %
The book's worked example, Chapter 9. The Market Batch jar holds 245.8 g at an 8 % load: 245.78 ÷ 1.08 = 227.6 g of wax and 18.2 g of fragrance, a content of 7.41 %. With a fragrance whose sheet lists a 12 % sensitizer, the candle holds 0.89 %: under the 1 % line, over a tenth of it, so the label needs EUH208.

Use the lower of the wax maker's maximum and what the fragrance supplier allows. IFRA Category 12 (candles) is often 100 %; that does not mean any load burns well.
