From the book, Chapter 14. Main Street is 72,000 square feet: 7,200 people in a loose crowd at 10 square feet each, 16,000 dense at 4.5, 28,800 packed at 2.5 (reporters’ rules of thumb). About 7,000 at a time, staying 1.5 hours over 8, turn over 5.3 times: about 37,333 visits. A gallon jar of 64 quarter cups at 40 beans each is 2,560. 11 × 32 × 320 = 112,640 words. A 40-acre park is 174 squares of 100 feet; at 7 trees a square, about 1,220 (from 871 to 1,568).
