Template A — The Survey Sheet
Every Angle · sizuriatto.com/go/angle-printables
Everything Chapters 1 to 5 measure, on one sheet. The book's house is printed in the middle column as a worked example (measured on paper, not surveyed by us); write yours in the last column, with the unit on every number. Plan coordinates: x east from the street-side west corner of the plot, y north from the street.
Your pace (Chapter 1)
| Measure | The book's | Yours |
|---|---|---|
| Taped length walked | 15.4 m | |
| Paces, walk 1; walk 2; walk 3 | 20 | |
| Pace = taped length ÷ average paces | 0.77 m | |
| Front wall: paces × pace | 13 × 0.77 = 10.01 m | |
| Front wall by tape or laser | 10.00 m |
The plot and the house (Chapters 1 and 2)
| Measure | The book's | Yours |
|---|---|---|
| Plot: width × depth | 15 × 30 m | |
| House: width × depth | 10 × 8 m | |
| House front wall from the street (y) | 6 m | |
| House west wall from the west fence (x) | 1.5 m | |
| Drive: width × length | 3.5 × 14 m | |
| Front door; back door (x) | 4 m; 7 m | |
| Gates: west passage (y); side gate (y) | 7 m; 10 m | |

| Footprint diagonal, worked; measured | 12.81 m | |
| Patio diagonal (square check) | 6.0 m |
Bearings and heights (Chapters 4 and 5)
| Measure | The book's | Yours |
|---|---|---|
| Your magnetic declination (look it up) | east +, west − | |
| Front wall faces (true bearing) | 180° | |

| Eaves' shadow; eaves height | 6.75 m; 5.4 m | |
| Eaves by clinometer: distance, angle, eye | 5.4 m | |
| Tree: distance, angle, eye height | 15 m, 39°, 1.6 m | |
| Tree height = eye + distance × tan(angle) | 13.75 m | |
| Tree's distance from the house | 11 m |
Before any height becomes a job. Anything on the roof or above a first-floor (US: second-story) window is a professional's. A tree that could reach the house is an arborist's question, not a saw's (Chapter 5's Stop Line).
The 1 : 100 Plan Grid
Every Angle · sizuriatto.com/go/angle-printables
One small square is 5 mm, one bold square 10 mm: at 1 : 100, 10 mm on the paper is 1 m on the ground. The book's house fits in 100 × 80 mm. For the whole plot use 1 : 200 (5 mm to the meter): the book's 15 × 30 m plot is 75 × 150 mm. Draw the street at the bottom and mark north.

Print at 100%, glue to thin card, cut round the outline. Fold the strip back along the dashed line over a drinking straw and tape it. Push a pin through the dot, tie a thread to it and hang a washer or a coin on the thread. Sight the top of the tree or the eaves through the straw, pinch the thread against the card, and read the angle.
Height = eye height + distance × tan(angle). The book's tree: 1.6 + 15 × tan 39° = 1.6 + 15 × 0.810 = 13.75 m.

| The book's tree | 15 | 1.6 | 39° | 0.810 | 13.75 |
Stand on level ground, never on a ladder, to sight. A tree that could reach the house is an arborist's question.
Template B — The Coverage Plan Sheet
Every Angle · sizuriatto.com/go/angle-printables
One line a camera: where it goes, how high, which way it points, how far it reaches and where it is blind (Chapters 4 to 9). The book's five cameras and doorbell are printed first; your plan goes in the second table. Every camera's reaches come from its own datasheet: reach = pixels ÷ (density × 2 tan(HFOV ÷ 2)); blind spot = height ÷ tan(tilt + half the tall view).
The book's plan
The book's camera: 2,560 px, 100° wide, 53° tall, 2.7 m up, tilted 20° down, so every one identifies to 4.30 m, recognizes to 8.59 m and is blind for the first 2.56 m. The doorbell: 1,920 px, 140°, 1.2 m up.
| No. | Where | (x, y) m | Aim | Seen at recognize | Beyond the plot | Cable run |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | front corner | (11.6, 5.9) | 200° | 43.5 m² | 20.9 m² | 13.4 m |
| 2 | drive and gate | (11.6, 13.5) | 165° | 26.6 m² | 16.1 m² | 20.9 m |
| 3 | back garden, west | (1.4, 14.1) | 045° | 62.0 m² | none | 9.4 m |
| 4 | back garden, east | (11.6, 14.1) | 315° | 62.0 m² | none | 19.4 m |
| 5 | west passage | (1.4, 5.9) | 340° | 12.4 m² | 33.5 m² | 3.4 m |
| D | doorbell | (4, 5.9) | 180° | identify at the step | battery |
At install (Chapter 11), camera 5 turns to 000°: it then sees 12.0 m² inside the plot and spills 21.1 m² beyond it.

The approach routes
Draw every route someone could walk from the street or a boundary to a door, and walk each one on paper: at every step, is it inside at least one camera's view, after the walls cut the views back?
| Route | Length | Book: four cameras | Book: five cameras | Yours: blind stretches |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Front path, street to front door | 5.4 m | seen | seen | |
| Drive, street to side gate | 10.0 m | seen | seen | |
| West passage, gate to back garden | 7.5 m | about 90 % blind | seen | |
| Back fence to back door | 14.9 m | seen | seen | |
Keep it on your side. For every camera, shade the part of its view beyond your boundary, then re-aim it or plan a privacy mask. Plan audio off, and plan the sign (Chapter 10's Stop Line). Cable runs: one entry hole, scanned with a detector first; every run under 100 m in all.
Template C — The Call It Log
Every Angle · sizuriatto.com/go/angle-printables
One line a chapter. Where a chapter makes two calls (Chapters 3, 5 and 8), score each and log the better one, so every chapter is worth up to 3 points. Write the call before you measure, in pen. Gap = (measured − call) ÷ measured, ignoring the sign. Within 5 % scores 3 points, within 10 % scores 2, within 20 % scores 1; beyond that 0, and find out why, because that is the chapter. Some numbers can only be measured once the cameras are up: those lines are checked in Chapter 11.
| Ch. | What you call | Your call | Measured | Gap | Points |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Your front wall's length by pacing; then tape it | ||||
| 2 | Your drive's (or a paved area's) area from the plan; then tape it | ||||
| 3 | The ladder's foot distance and length for your mounting point (two calls) | ||||
| 4 | The true bearing your front wall faces, from a map; then a compass | ||||
| 5 | Your eaves (and a tree) by shadow; then by clinometer (two calls) | ||||
| 6 | Your phone camera's pixels per meter at 3 m; then photograph a 1 m stick | ||||
| 7 | The near blind spot under your first camera (checked in Chapter 11) | ||||
| 8 | Blind stretches on your routes, and the share seen (two calls; checked in Chapter 11) | ||||
| 9 | Your longest cable run; then a tape or string along the walls | ||||
| 10 | The days of recording your drive will hold (checked in Chapter 11) | ||||
| Your points, out of 30 |
Each chapter's own Call It box says exactly what to call and how to check it; where it and this line differ, follow the chapter. For a count (Chapter 8's blind stretches), the same count scores 3 points and one out scores 1.

Template D — The Quote-Check Sheet
Every Angle · sizuriatto.com/go/angle-printables
Every price here is illustrative: US store prices and cost-guide labor rates seen in November 2026, without a currency sign. The book's example quote was written for this book; it is not a real firm's. A quote check is a list of good questions, not an accusation.
The book's quote, line by line (Chapter 10)
| Line | Installer's quote | Book's estimate | Quote − estimate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Five 4 MP cameras at 160 | 800 | 675.00 | +125.00 |
| 8-channel recorder with 2 TB drive | 520 | 525.00 | −5.00 |
| Cable, junction boxes and connectors | 260 | 370.59 | −110.59 |
| Labor, 12 hours at 85 | 1,020 | 700.00 | +320.00 |
| Doorbell camera, supplied and fitted | 180 | 215.00 | −35.00 |
| Total | 2,780 | 2,485.59 | +294.41 |
The estimate is store price × 1.5 (an example 50 % markup) for the equipment, and 140 a camera plus an hour at 65 for the labor. The gap: (2,780 − 2,485.59) ÷ 2,780 = 10.6 %, inside 15 %: the Quote level. The questions it raises: the cameras carry a 77.8 % markup (160 against 90); the recorder a fair 48.6 %; the labor is 2.4 hours a camera at 85 an hour. The cable line is cheaper than the book's, because installers buy cable by the 1,000 ft box. A quote can be low on a line.

| The DIY bill, parts and tools | 1,357.80 | |
| Quote − DIY bill: time, skill, insurance, warranty | 1,422.20 | |
| Does the quote say what the warranty covers? | ask |
Questions worth asking any installer. What markup is on each camera, and which model is it (read its pixels and lens: Chapter 6)? What do the hours include: the survey, the drilling, the aiming, the setup on your phone? Is any of the work mains wiring, and who does it? Where will each camera point, and what will it see beyond your boundary? Is audio switched off? What happens when a camera drops off the network in January?
Markup and margin. Markup = profit ÷ cost; margin = profit ÷ price. A 50 % markup is a 33.3 % margin. Ask which one a quote means.
Template E — The Night-Walk Checklist
Every Angle · sizuriatto.com/go/angle-printables
The Build is scored by the world, on one walk after dark (Chapter 11). You watch every camera's live view; a helper walks every approach route slowly, from the street or the back fence to a door. Mark each stretch where they vanish from every picture, and tape its length. Do it with the lights you will really have on, and tell the neighbors first if your helper will be walking near their side.
Before you go
| Ready? | Tick |
|---|---|
| Every camera on, and all of them on one screen (the recorder or a phone) | |
| A helper, a flashlight, a tape measure, chalk, and a sheet of A4 paper (or US letter) | |

| No ladder tonight: anything to re-aim waits for daylight and a second person | |
| Audio off on every camera and the doorbell; the sign up |
The routes
| Route | Length | Blind stretches: where, how long | Best level seen | Fixed? how |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Front path, street to door | ||||
| Drive, street to side gate | ||||
| Side passage, gate to garden | ||||
| Back fence to back door | ||||
The book's plan calls 0 blind stretches on its four routes. At the door and the side gate, your helper holds the A4 sheet (210 mm wide) flat beside their face; pause, take a still, and read the sheet's width in pixels. Pixels per meter = pixels across ÷ 0.21: identify needs 52.5 pixels across A4 (250 px/m), about 54.0 across US letter; recognize half that.
